A Great Adventure- Journal Layout.

A Great Adventure, journal layout

i always seam to do double layouts in my journals, i cant seam to get my head around having two different things on opposite pages lol but i’m not bothered i love working the doubles.
using some of my  June DT kit from Thompsons Craft supplies
i also used some cardboard from a box, some hand made stamps, some stamped and aged circles , some washi tape and some gesso.
i cut  out some of the paper to fit the right hand side of my double layout and then tore round the edges,
with what  was left , 2 pieces from the side and bottom, i tore round them and turned them sideways and glued to the other page,  so both of my pages were covered i then added some washi tape and the torn off pieces from my main sheet to add the next layer.
i then scraped some white gesso over the pages to soften it down.
when it was dry i then added the Ocean paint using my finger, just here and there.
i chose my dragonfly and butterfly and sponged with the ocean paint.
i splattered with some black watercolour paint
i then layered up my card, stamps, butterfly tracing paper, distressed circle and butterfly/dragonfly, working both sides at the same time.
lastly i found my title , mounted onto some card then added them to my layout and using a journalling pen i framed the title and both the pages but not down the centre.

Mintay Harmony Art Journaling – Grace

This week I have an art journal project to share that I had made with my previous kit, featuring the Mintay Harmony paper pad.

The full process can be swatched on my YouTube channel here:

My favourite element of this project is the stencilling that I did with three different mediums, Prima Paper Paste, and two different colours of Nuvo Embellishment Mousse; I really love the effect of the different mediums and colours blending together using one stencil.

Here is my product list:

Mintay Harmony

AB Studio Rice Paper Vintage Flowers

Friday 13th Art Journal

Prima Flowers and Stencil Set

Fabrika Decoru Chameleon Paint Electric

Fabrika Decoru Chameleon Paint Moonstone

Distress Oxide Chipped Sapphire

Fabrika Decoru Chalk Spray Blue

Gothic Art Journal Pages – Grace

This week I’ve created this gothic inspired art journal spread – the 13 Arts Victoriana Paper Pack I’ve been working with these past few weeks has a very gothic vibe, which is a style I love, but I was yet to do a project with that aesthetic.

To see how the pages were created, you can watch the process video here:

These are the products I used:

One of my favourite elements is the pieces of the cover page from the Victoriana Paper Pack, which I used as tissue/decoupage paper to collage different patterns on to my pages. This is why I never throw away anything, you can find a use for all sorts of things!

Now is the Right Time Mixed Media Page – Grace

This week I have created a fun mixed media project using some AB Studio packaging as my base (I always keep stuff like that, you never know when it’ll come in useful or inspire you!)

The part that says ‘be creative every day’ is part of the packaging – so I stuck some cheap (read: not very sticky) washi tape over it while I worked on the rest of the project, so that when I was nearly done I could peel the tape off and still have the phrase showing.

I love the way the project is built up over the phrase, rather than being on top (as words and phrases are usually one of the last things you add). It’s definitely a technique I’ll try again in the future.

The full process for this project can be watched in an accompanying video on my YouTube channel here.

Art Journal – Be Present – Grace

This week I’ve done some art journaling in my P13 Art Journal.

I prepped my pages with a layer of gesso (note, the pages in this journal are fabulous quality and really thick, and may not need gesso depending on what you’re doing, but as I was about to colour the pages with Distress Oxide inks I used the gesso because the inks behave a lot better on top of gesso). I coloured the pages with Distress Oxide in Tumbled Glass and in Stormy Sky.

I then added stencilling with Vicki Boutin circle stencils – with one stencil I used a baby wipe to ‘lift’ the background colour off, and with the other I used Distress Oxide in Faded Jeans.

Next I used Fabrika Decoru Chameleon Metallic Paint in Golden Electric to add all the little squares. Then used a pot of gel medium (though anything circle shaped would do, a pen pot, circle die, whatever!) to draw messy circles all over the pages with a Sharpie fineliner. I sprayed on Fabrika Decoru Chameleon Spray in Transparent Twilight, which made the ink on the circles ‘run’ which I really liked.

The butterflies were fussy cut from the AB Studio Crafter’s Bundle, and coloured with the Transparent Twilight spray.

The words are all from Dina Wakley collage words, and were decoupaged onto the page with gel medium. Once the page was dry I went around the words and phrases with a black pen, creating messy/rough borders around them so they would stand out.

Finally I added white dots with a paint pen, and then splatters of Distress Oxide Spray in Faded Jeans.

As always, I have a video of the whole process which you can watch on my YouTube channel here.

Shabby Chic Art Journaling – Grace

This week I decided to do some art journaling for my DT project. My art journal style is very collage-based, so it’s a great way to use up bits and scraps!

Inspired by the AB Studio Shabby Love Symphony papers from my DT kit, I made a shabby chic-esque page. I started by adding some stencilling with the 13Arts Rose Stencil and some modelling paste. Then once that was dried, I went over the whole page with Impasto Paint in Dusty Rose, watering it down in places so it was easier to spread.

Next I added some ripped pieces of Kraft paper, and added some delicate flower stencilling on top of that with Prima Paper Paste.

Then I added lots of collaging elements: scraps from the Shabby Love Symphony paper pack, book pages, paper doily,  etc, and then some paper flowers in the empty corners.

For a centrepiece, I found this quote online, and wrote it on a scrap of Kraft cardstock with white fountain pen ink and a glass dip pen.

To see the full process, you can watch the video on my YouTube channel here.

Shabby Chic Book Cover – Grace

This week I’ve created quite a ‘big’ project with my DT kit, using and inspired by AB Studio Shabby Love Symphony; I’ve made this hardback mixed media book cover. Being as it was a bigger project than usual, the best way to show you what I did (including making the cover itself from scratch) is via the process video, which you can watch here.

This is the cover before all the mixed media elements were added:

I chose one paper from the AB paper pack to use for the outside cover so it would flow nicely between the panels, and cut the pieces to size

They were all covered with clear gesso, before adding stamping, stencilling, and then 3D elements including flowers and chipboard.

Paints used include Impasto in Dusty Rose, and Fabrika Decoru Shabby Velour in Heather.

Splatters were added with Fabrika Decoru Chalk Spray in Blue Shabby and Distress Oxide Spray in Victorian Velvet.

And of course, everything was stuck together and held in place with the fantastic 3D Gloss Gel by Prima!

Fly Away Art Journal Page – Grace

How are we all liking the shiny new website?! I for one love it! This week I’ve created an Art Journal page with my September Design Team kit – if you’d like to watch the video share, you can find it on my YouTube channel here.

I used the Fabric Decoru Shabby Velour paint, and some black gesso to create the stripes. Then Prima Paper Paste for the stencilling.

I chose a paper from the Hello Beautiful paper pad, and ripped around the flowers (I thought it would look more ‘natural’ than fussy cutting them), and then stamped and embossed the AB Studio bird stamp on the same paper.

As I glued down the paper elements (with Prima 3D gloss gel), I bundled up gold metallic thread and placed it partially under the papers. I also added small sections of the black leaf ribbon.

The acetate doilies, bright pink flowers, and pink leaves are all from my stash (though the pink leaves were from a previous kit). I added the ‘fly away’ title with the Thickers from my kit, and finished off with lots of splatters in pink, black, and white.

To see the process in full, you can watch the video on my YouTube channel.
