Monochrome Mixed Media Layout

Merry Christmas! I hope you’re having a wonderful time.

It’s Lou here with a mixed media layout for you.

I hadn’t been very well lately, but was dying to do something crafty so I settled for doing a load of stamping and fussy cutting it out ready to use in a project. I love to use versafine clair ink as its a really juicy ink and gives great detail at ease even for inexperience stampers like myself. If you’d like any details of any the stamps I have used please feel free to email us at:

I wanted to make a page using these stamps and wanted to stick to the monochrome feel so i chose a dark woodgrain from Mintay Papers Dear Diary pad. I chose 2 stencils – tiny circles by TCW and AB Studio stencil ID-70  For the paste I used Fabrika Decoru texture paste.

To keep with these theme, I used black impasto paint from Finnabair to extended the lines of the stenciling using a Maremi’s Small Art stencil.

Now I had a good background, I began to work on building up the page. I stuck down some of my die cut stamping with tape and some on foam tape to raise it. I added some other plain die cuts. I also used some acetate butterflies from 13 arts and some Prima moulded pieces I had a prima resin round frame I had made previously, but not used and it worked great for this piece. This was stuck down with Fabrika Decoru 3D gel

I finished the embellishments with some metal cogs painted with impasto paint, melange clear pebbles  and the ‘memories’ word, which is a Maremi’s Small Art word sticker backed on card, distressed and inked with black ink. I added just a touch of colour by adding very watered down prima metallique paint in bronze over some of the stenciling and die cuts. The lady is a Finnabair art daily sticker again backed on card and cut out. The piece was finished with a large Prima fabric flower painted in black gesso and distressed with white gesso and the bronze paint. I’d also added  little bit of mini art stones mixed with the Fabrika 3D gel and spread it again where the stenciling was to exaggerate the lines.

This page was made over a process of 2 days and it really helped me think more about my work. When we slow down and enjoy the process we can really make some great work as I’m really pleased with. Enjoy the process folks and have a wonderful Christmas and new year.

Prima Christmas in the Country Layout

Hello, Grace here. I’m here with my first project with my December kit, using mostly the Prima Christmas in the Country collection.

This layout was a really quick one to put together, thanks to beautiful embellishments available in store such as the Prima flowers and hobbilicious chipboard.

I painted the chipboard banner and stars with Fabrika Decoru Antique Gold paint. While they were drying I backed my photo, adding Distress Oxide in Aged Mahogany around the edges, and added splatters of Antique Linen and gold.

I added flowers, puffy stickers, and Christmassy sentiments and stickers around the photo, and finished with some journaling in the bottom right corner, and some Honey Gold Nuvo Drops.

Snowy Wintery Layout – Grace

I’m here this week with my last project with my November kit. I created this very wintery and snowy layout featuring my cat in the snow.

Using AB Studio Secret Wood, I chose this snowy paper, but added a light layer of white gesso over a large area in the middle so the pattern would be toned down for where I added my photo and embellishments.

I added stencilling with Prima Paper Paste and an AB Studio Stencil, then snowflake stencilling with embellishment mousse. Then I added splatters of watered down gesso, and watered down Fabrika Decoru Metallic Silver Paint.

I used lots of ripped pieces of patterned paper, and a scrap of tulle to back my photo, going round the edges of everything with Distress Oxide in Tumbled Glass. The embellishments are a mix of fussy cut flowers from the AB paper pack, painted with silver watercolour, and some snowflake ephemera from my stash. The words are from the Time Holtz Christmas Clippings.

I finished with adhesive pearls and Nuvo drops in three silver/white colours, then added my title of ‘nope’ (because that is what it looks like my cat is saying to the snow!). The alphas I used were quite a strong blue and weren’t quite right for the layout, so I stippled a light layer of white gesso over them to tone the colour down and also add a snowy effect.

The presence of wonder

Hi Lou here again. Today I really wanted to show how wonderful stamps can look on our work.  I really wanted the stamps to sing so decided to keep a monchromatic theme of black, white and red.

I chose sheet 2 from the AB Studio Diary paper set. using my silicone brush, i brushed and stippled on white gesso to add some coverage and texture to my page

I next chose 3 stamp sets – AALL and Create #27, Finnabair checkered texts, and AB Studio ID-57 and used Versafine Clair black and added stamping in vertical and horizontal directions.

I gave this a quick heat with a heat gun but not carefully so as to leave some areas a bit wet still for my next step in mind. I took a further stamp, Messy, and Tim Holtz embossing ink, and added more stamping. Over this I added a black glitter embossing powder. This stuck also to some of the previous stamping that was still wet. This gave some great texture and 2 variants of stamping.

The die cuts I wanted to add were red in tone so I wanted to colour over the gesso. I chose a red tone of magic paint from Fabrika Decoru.

These are wonderful paints with colour and metallic shimmer. You simple sprinkle on and spray with water. For a bit  different look and a bit more vibrancy, I added flicks of oxide ink in worn lipstick.

Next, I chose some small photos and matted them with papers from the same range. I distressed the papers and added to the photo using foam tape.

I now wanted to add some simple, but very effective decoration to my page. i decided to die cut some tags from the same range and a large butterfly from the white butterfly sheet from AB Studio. The Butterfly was added on 2 layers of chipboard to really make it stand out from the page.

To finish, I added a simple Tim Holtz word sticker onto foam dots.

Here are some close up shots for you.

Frosty Fox Layout with AB Secret Wood – Grace

This week I’ve made a frosty wintery layout with AB Studio Secret Wood.

We have twin foxes (this year’s babies) who come into our garden, and I have a few pictures of them I’ve been meaning to scrap – as soon as I saw the fussy-cutable fox elements in this paper pack I knew it was my chance!

I added stencilling with an AB studio stencil and Prima Paper Texture paste, plus some snowflake stencils from my stash and glitter and glass bead pastes. Then to add some of my own colour to the background, I watered down some Distress Oxide ink in tumbled glass and splattered over the layout with a paintbrush, then also added Distress Oxide Spray in Mermaid Lagoon, Fabrika Decoru Chalk Spray in Pink, and some watered down gesso.

The embellishments are either fussy cut from the paper pack, or from flower bundles from the store. I also used 3D Gloss Gel to add Prima Glass beads between the embellishments, then lightly dabbed Fabrika Decoru Silver Metallic paint on those and on some of the other embellishments for a frosty effect.

Rusty Pumpkin

Today a bit of a different layout –  I am playing with clay and paint on my page

I made the pumpkins, leaves and acorns from clay and then painted them. You could try this paper clay

or modeling material from Prima Marketing to make your own.

On the base of the page, which is from the grungy wall set by 13arts , i used a mixed media circle stencil from Studio Light and heavy body paste.

I mounted my photo onto some of the cork sheet from my recent kit, which you can request in the lucky dip bags. I then tore another sheet from the paper range a big bigger than my photo and mounted it.

The photo mat was mounted using 3d foam gel and 3d gel glue to give them a bit of height off the page.

I then arranged my pumpkins, acorns and leaves on the page, mixing in some paper leaves and metal leaves from Prima marketing as well, all using the 3d gel medium.

I took my title from a Tim Holtz phrase book (we have a few different ones in store) and mounted them onto card and arranged using 3d foam pads. I covered my title and photo and then splattered using some watered down bronze Prima Metallique paint. The paint can also be requested in the lucky dip kits and found in the Vintage Romance kit

I hope you like my project and see you again soon. Here are some close ups.

Autumn Layout

All the products i used are available from Thompsons craft supplies.

Using the 13arts grungy wall papers-Damaged for my back ground.

I toyed with adding to to it but the paper was so nice on its own it had everything it needed so i decided to leave it alone.

I added some of the cork, a bit to mount my photo on one corner and then a torn piece as my base.

I used another paper from the 13arts paper range this time from the Summer Rhapsody set– Rose rhapsody, i fussy cut some of the roses, they matched my back ground sheet perfectly.

I added some mdf leaves and my title from the creative embellishments range also from Louise, all painted in Fabrika Decoru shabby velour paints in vintage green, i inked the title a little with black.

I layered all my pieces around my photo using 3d foam pads and 3d gel and then added some paper flowers and some sequins here and there around my central design.

Lastly i splattered using watered down prima metallique paint-steampunk copper, i covered my photo while i did my splattering.

13Arts Summer Rhapsody Layout – Grace

This week I have my first project with my October kit – if you’d like to see what items I got, you can watch the kit share video here.

I created this shabby style layout using the 13Arts Summer Rhapsody paper pack, Maremi’s Small Art Stencil, and Fabrika Decoru Chalk Paste.

The ephemera/embellishments are from my stash – I mostly chose black and white, and pink items to match the theme of the background paper. The stencilling was done with Embellishment mousse and Prima Paper Paste. I also added Distress Oxide in Worn Lipstick to the background with the packaging technique.

I added lots of tiny word/phrase stickers, splatters, and black and white sequins for the final details. And finished off with my title, which is from the Cocoa Vanilla Unforgettable collection.

Layout with Hello Beautiful Papers – Grace

I’m back with my last project with my September kit – the main element of which was the stunning Hello Beautiful paper pad by Piatek Tryznastego.

To see how I created this layout, you can watch the process video here on my YouTube channel. It features lots of elements – stamping, heat embossing, texture paste, stencils, and watercolours. I used the Prima Paper Texture Paste for my stencilling which is currently my favourite stencilling medium.

The stencil I used is from this Vicki Boutin set. Some of the embellishments are fussy cut from the paper pad, the rest are from my stash – this paper pad is so versatile it’s so easy to use up things you have lying around!

Keep an eye out on my YouTube channel next week to see the beautiful items in my October kit.

Butterfly Scrapbook Layout – Grace

This week I’ve created a pretty floral scrapbook layout with the Piatek Trzynastego Hello Beautiful paper pad.

The majority of embellishments were fussy cut from the paper pad itself, but before I added those, I added some mixed media to my background. I used Vicki Boutin Stencils, Prima Paper Paste, Distress Oxide Spray in Victorian Velvet, and Lindy’s Starburst Spray in Saltwater Taffy. I also added the floral stamps in the background, which are from my personal stash.

The photo is backed with a scrap of paper from the same paper pad. Next I added the gold glitter title, some phrase/quote stickers, and then LOTS of splatters and Nuvo Drops.
