Beauty in Bloom Altered Hexagon – Grace

This week Ive created a mixed media piece on a wooden hexagon sent to me in my latest DT kit, using Mintay’s Beauty in Bloom.

This project was one I changed my mind about LOADS during the process of making it – at one point I disliked it so much I was about to turn the hexagon over and start all over again, but I did one simple thing that rescued the whole piece for me. You can watch the whole process on my YouTube channel here:                  https://youtu.be/LIAOjtI27TI

Gothic Art Journal Pages – Grace

This week I’ve created this gothic inspired art journal spread – the 13 Arts Victoriana Paper Pack I’ve been working with these past few weeks has a very gothic vibe, which is a style I love, but I was yet to do a project with that aesthetic.

To see how the pages were created, you can watch the process video here:                  https://youtu.be/2Se5MR4z0H8

These are the products I used:

One of my favourite elements is the pieces of the cover page from the Victoriana Paper Pack, which I used as tissue/decoupage paper to collage different patterns on to my pages. This is why I never throw away anything, you can find a use for all sorts of things!

Now is the Right Time Mixed Media Page – Grace

This week I have created a fun mixed media project using some AB Studio packaging as my base (I always keep stuff like that, you never know when it’ll come in useful or inspire you!)

The part that says ‘be creative every day’ is part of the packaging – so I stuck some cheap (read: not very sticky) washi tape over it while I worked on the rest of the project, so that when I was nearly done I could peel the tape off and still have the phrase showing.

I love the way the project is built up over the phrase, rather than being on top (as words and phrases are usually one of the last things you add). It’s definitely a technique I’ll try again in the future.

The full process for this project can be watched in an accompanying video on my YouTube channel here.

13Arts Victoriana Paper Pack

13Arts Victoriana Word Stickers

Lindy’s Embossing Powder ‘Chip off the Old Black’

Finnabair/Prima Tissue/Decorative Paper Flutter

Labyrinth Inspired Scrapbook Page – Grace

Hi all! This week I’ve created a scrapbook page/decor piece with the 13 Arts Victoriana Paper Pack and the rest of my gorgeous Design Team kit.

While editing my video for last week a song from Labyrinth came up on my shuffle, and I was inspired to use my kit to create something Labyrinth related – particularly as there are quite a few clock-themed things in this kit and there is a lot of clock imagery in that film.

This week’s process video is longer than usual, and as it shows all the steps and products used, I’ll let the video do all the talking! You can watch it on my YouTube channel here:

Victoriana Layout – Grace

This week I’ve made a scrapbook layout with the gorgeous Victoriana papers from 13Arts. If you haven’t yet seen what I received in my Design Team kit this month, then you can watch the video share here.

I chose the beautiful ‘Circle of Time’ paper for my base, and wanted to follow the shape of the wreath on the paper for my composition. I first added a layer of clear gesso over the paper, then added stamping and embossing in the background with a 49 & Market Stamp, Finnabair Stamp, and Lindy’s Embossing Powder. Then added stencilling with a Maremi Small Art Stencil, and the Fabrika Decoru stencil from my kit.

While waiting for the stencilling to dry (I had used a crackle paste that needs to dry naturally rather than with a heat tool), I fussy cut some elements from the paper pack, from the 13 Arts Wings Acetate, and used some stamps from my stash, such as the Finnabair Don’t Forget to Fly set, to stamp and fussy cut more embellishments. I added colour to both the background of the layout and the stamped elements with Fabrika Decoru Magic Paint in Red Wine.

From here I assembled all the elements of the layout – to be honest, I was really unhappy with it until almost the very end, when I was adding some gold ink splatters, and decided to brush the gold ink onto all my embellishments. This made them all tie together beautifully and gave the whole layout some unity. I also added red and white splatters, making sure to dry in between inks so they didn’t blend together and make pink!

There are many elements on this page, so the best way to see it come together is by watching my process video here.

Snowy Wintery Layout – Grace

I’m here this week with my last project with my November kit. I created this very wintery and snowy layout featuring my cat in the snow.

Using AB Studio Secret Wood, I chose this snowy paper, but added a light layer of white gesso over a large area in the middle so the pattern would be toned down for where I added my photo and embellishments.

I added stencilling with Prima Paper Paste and an AB Studio Stencil, then snowflake stencilling with embellishment mousse. Then I added splatters of watered down gesso, and watered down Fabrika Decoru Metallic Silver Paint.

I used lots of ripped pieces of patterned paper, and a scrap of tulle to back my photo, going round the edges of everything with Distress Oxide in Tumbled Glass. The embellishments are a mix of fussy cut flowers from the AB paper pack, painted with silver watercolour, and some snowflake ephemera from my stash. The words are from the Time Holtz Christmas Clippings.

I finished with adhesive pearls and Nuvo drops in three silver/white colours, then added my title of ‘nope’ (because that is what it looks like my cat is saying to the snow!). The alphas I used were quite a strong blue and weren’t quite right for the layout, so I stippled a light layer of white gesso over them to tone the colour down and also add a snowy effect.

Frosty Fox Layout with AB Secret Wood – Grace

This week I’ve made a frosty wintery layout with AB Studio Secret Wood.

We have twin foxes (this year’s babies) who come into our garden, and I have a few pictures of them I’ve been meaning to scrap – as soon as I saw the fussy-cutable fox elements in this paper pack I knew it was my chance!

I added stencilling with an AB studio stencil and Prima Paper Texture paste, plus some snowflake stencils from my stash and glitter and glass bead pastes. Then to add some of my own colour to the background, I watered down some Distress Oxide ink in tumbled glass and splattered over the layout with a paintbrush, then also added Distress Oxide Spray in Mermaid Lagoon, Fabrika Decoru Chalk Spray in Pink, and some watered down gesso.

The embellishments are either fussy cut from the paper pack, or from flower bundles from the store. I also used 3D Gloss Gel to add Prima Glass beads between the embellishments, then lightly dabbed Fabrika Decoru Silver Metallic paint on those and on some of the other embellishments for a frosty effect.

Layout with Hello Beautiful Papers – Grace

I’m back with my last project with my September kit – the main element of which was the stunning Hello Beautiful paper pad by Piatek Tryznastego.

To see how I created this layout, you can watch the process video here on my YouTube channel. It features lots of elements – stamping, heat embossing, texture paste, stencils, and watercolours. I used the Prima Paper Texture Paste for my stencilling which is currently my favourite stencilling medium.

The stencil I used is from this Vicki Boutin set. Some of the embellishments are fussy cut from the paper pad, the rest are from my stash – this paper pad is so versatile it’s so easy to use up things you have lying around!

Keep an eye out on my YouTube channel next week to see the beautiful items in my October kit.

Fly Away Art Journal Page – Grace

How are we all liking the shiny new website?! I for one love it! This week I’ve created an Art Journal page with my September Design Team kit – if you’d like to watch the video share, you can find it on my YouTube channel here.

I used the Fabric Decoru Shabby Velour paint, and some black gesso to create the stripes. Then Prima Paper Paste for the stencilling.

I chose a paper from the Hello Beautiful paper pad, and ripped around the flowers (I thought it would look more ‘natural’ than fussy cutting them), and then stamped and embossed the AB Studio bird stamp on the same paper.

As I glued down the paper elements (with Prima 3D gloss gel), I bundled up gold metallic thread and placed it partially under the papers. I also added small sections of the black leaf ribbon.

The acetate doilies, bright pink flowers, and pink leaves are all from my stash (though the pink leaves were from a previous kit). I added the ‘fly away’ title with the Thickers from my kit, and finished off with lots of splatters in pink, black, and white.

To see the process in full, you can watch the video on my YouTube channel.
